21 Days of Fasting
2026 will be a defining year for Renew Life Church, and as a spiritual family, we are intentionally setting aside time to prepare our hearts for what God desires to do in and through us. We believe the Lord is calling us deeper—not only into intimacy with Him, but into a greater understanding of who we are in Christ and how to live and pray from the authority He has given us as believers.
With that in mind, we are excited to invite our entire church to participate in a 21-day church-wide fast from January 11-31. During these 21 days, we will focus on the theme “The Believer’s Authority,” exploring everything from our identity in Christ to exercising spiritual authority in prayer, faith, and daily life.
The Bible tells us that “those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14). Fasting helps quiet the voice of the flesh so we can hear the voice of the Spirit more clearly. As we fast together, our prayer is that we would learn not only how to pray, but from where we pray—standing firmly in our identity as sons and daughters of God and operating in the authority Jesus has entrusted to us.
What Is Biblical Fasting?
Biblically, fasting is a spiritual discipline mentioned over 70 times throughout Scripture. It involves intentionally abstaining from food or drink in some way for a set period of time in order to seek God more deeply. Fasting is a holy, set-apart time to pursue God’s presence, cultivate intimacy with Him, renew our minds with His Word, and align our hearts with His purposes.
Throughout Scripture, fasting is often connected with prayer, repentance, humility, breakthrough, and spiritual clarity. When we fast, we are not trying to earn God’s favor—we are positioning ourselves to receive from Him and to walk more fully in what He has already made available to us through Christ.
Biblical Benefits of Fasting
Here are just a few of the benefits of fasting that we see throughout the Bible:
To hear God more clearly
(Exodus 34:28, Acts 13:2)To grow in humility and dependence on God
(Psalm 35:13, Ezra 8:21)To pray for breakthrough, protection, and healing
(Ezra 8:21–23, Esther 4:16, Matthew 17:14–20)To fully submit our lives to the Lord’s will and direction
(Joel 2:12, Acts 14:23)
As we fast together in 2026, our expectation is that God will deepen our understanding of who we are in Christ, strengthen our prayer lives, and empower us to live boldly in the authority He has given every believer. We believe this season will mark a shift—not just in how we pray, but in how we live.
